This day was just full of bright. From the moment I took the first detail shot to the last photos of the exit, this wedding day was joy-filled and SO FUN! The ever-unpredictable Austin weather was perfect (storms danced around the venue while we stayed dry and sunny) and everything went perfectly smoothly.
Though a smooth timeline is always lovely, the most special thing about Katie and Tyler's wedding day was them. They were nothing but giddy and exuberant from beginning to end. They could hardly wait to be married and were both filled with joyful anticipation, which made the day so wonderful and whimsical!
Katie's girl's were so sweet and fun, making her prep time bouncy with Beyonce tracks, duh, and special with bubbly drinks and ooh's and awe's all throughout her hair and makeup process.
Look at her cute tiny tatoo!
Katie and her mom are like Lorelai and Rory. They're dear friends as well as mother and daughter. Their first look was so sweet and special. I love the proud mother look she has in the shot below.
Katie's bridesmaids were equally sweet for their first look too!
Katie was a stunnnning bride!
Tyler and his guys were equally exuberant. Guys helping each other get ready for a wedding is one of my favorite things. I'm not sure why. It just makes me happy.
Before we knew it, the time for Katie and Tyler's first look had come. Katie made her way downstairs to meet her groom.
Tyler was so excited he couldn't not smile! He waited for her with so much anticipation.
I'm so in love with this big oak tree. We used this spot for so many shots because those branches were just too beautiful and romantic. It was like a movie.
This is the face you make when you just saw your groom for the first time on your wedding day and you can't wait for the ceremony!
But first, group portraits! Their bridal party was so fun. I have a habit of calling people "humans" in conversation, and I do so a lot when orchestrating groups for portraits. If you know me, it's familiar and part of my personality. If we've just met, it may be confusing and weird, haha. One groomsman retorted, "Humans... are you an alien?!" So, I'll take this time to say something to any future bridal party humans I'll interact with: I apologize in advance for whatever weird things I say/do to get you in a line for photos!
And finally, Katie and Tyler get what they want: TO GET MARRIED!
My dad is a pastor and I've seen him officiate many a wedding, so I've seen this funny little trick before (he did it at my wedding!), but the bride and groom's reaction is always the same. Katie and Tyler's officiant paused slightly after the final prayer, making Katie and Tyler wait to kiss and seal the deal. It always ends up being a happy, funny, final moment in the ceremony!
And they're MARRIED!!!
One of my favorite things to do is follow the bride and groom wherever they go after the ceremony because it always ends up being a chaotic hurricane huddle of giggles, happy hugs, and blurts of "OH MY GOSH WE'RE MARRIED!!!!"
Crazy, congratulatory chaos!
Another one of my favorite parts of a wedding day: bride and groom portraits after the ceremony. This is where I usually have a little more time to be creative, go with the flow of the moment, and get some really happy photos of the bride and groom with that just married glow! And Katie and Tyler were realllly glowing :)))
I also take this time to grab a few more shots of the bride because I mean can you ever have too many bridal portraits?
Okay back to bride and groom shots because you really can't have too many of those either.
These moments in front of the white house almost didn't happen. We'd actually just finished portraits and were walking back to the reception hall. But as Katie and Tyler past through that window of light I was like, "WAIT!!!!" Their sweet coordinator Debi witnessed the whole thing, haha. Sorry Debi! Glad I stopped them though, because these are some of my favorite shots of the day!
And now time for another favorite part of the day - the reception!
Katie's face kills me, haha! She's so expressive and funny. Her mom had just made a great toast joke and Katie's playing along :)
This reception was SOOOO FUNNNNN. I just love receptions. I always have. As a participant, as a photographer, I don't care - I'm just all about wedding receptions. Seriously, taking photos of people dancing with crazy neon lights and a happy-wedding-bliss-buzz is one of my favorite things!
But also for happy newlyweds ^ :)
