This was a camp wedding, y’all. The whole day from details to dancing was drenched in community. Aunt played coordinator, family friends made (an awesome) dinner, Dad was DJ.
Krystal and Ben are the first Hus Encampment couple to get married at the camp, and though it is a summer camp in all it’s Texas Summer camp glory, they did an awesome job making it beautiful for their wedding. So many pretty, delicate details.
As the wedding photographer, I have the privilege to spend quite a lot of time with both the bride and groom separately and together on the wedding day. I love all of my couples, and getting to spend this time with them is seriously one of my favorite parts of the job. Essentially, they hire me to stalk - er - observe them all day, and watching their individual transitions from hanging with their friends separately to the first look is the besssst every time. The difference with Krystal and Ben was so evident. They were both lovely, light hearted, and easy going all day. But when they finally got to do the first look and just be together, oh my goodness, the sweetest change. You could tell that as soon as they were together, it was like they were home. They instantly became the best versions of themselves when they were together. Isn’t it beautiful how a person can do that, make you better? Right before Krystal walked up, Ben said his heart was just beating out of his chest. Heart-eyes!
Krystal and Ben's roots run deep at Hus Encampment, from their family to their courtship, and now to their marriage. To them, this camp is sacred, and it provided a safe, special place for them to start their life together. Even more special, the outdoor chapel where they got married is dedicated to the memory of Krystal's grandfather, a patriarchal figure at the camp.
Put me in a field that is special to a bride and a groom and I'm in my happy place. Ben told me that he once rode a bike into the pond behind this field. That is #summercampthings 100%. I think it is so cool that Krystal and Ben chose to start their marriage in a place that has been integral in their lives, both separate and together, for so long. Camp holds so many special memories and moments for them, and now it is the sacred place where they got married!
Time for good grub, home-made brownies, confetti filled Nothing Bundt Cakes, fizzy filled cheers, and happy bulb light dance parties!
Krystal and Ben did a "Grand March" entrance into the dance party, which is something I've never seen before and includes all of the wedding guests. It made for a really fun beginning to the dances and a really different, fun bride and groom first dance!
While the dance party was still hippin and hoppin, Krystal’s dad snuck up to me and told me they had a big surprise for the exit. They sent them off with a Big Bang and ended the night with an awesome light show! Krystal and Ben have the sweetest community who wanted to love them greatly as they stepped into their marriage.
